Netflix in the gaming fever: Even Dragon Age and Final Fantasy should come as a series
The Witcher, Resident Evil, Castlevania - Netflix is really serious with their adaptations of video game series lately. Even if not every series is a hit (you are meant, Dragon's Dogma), the quality is largely relatively high, at least in comparison with most video game films from the 90s or early 2000s. And even with the audience, the productions seem to arrive because Netflix plans much more.
Pokémon, Final Fantasy and Dragon Age on Netflix
Especially only came to the light that a Pokémon series is located at Netflix at an early stage of production. This should be based on the film Detective Pikachu, which offers real people and places in addition to CGI monsters. But not enough, because even Final Fantasy could get a serial implementation with real actors.
That's how the series could look: Final Fantasy has now 15 main games (Final Fantasy 16 is currently under development) and various spin-offs. The probability that Netflix picks up one of these story lines but is rather unlikely. Rather, the style of the RPG series is likely to be taken over and packed in a completely new story, as at that time at Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
Also planned Dragon Age? In addition to FF, Dragon Age is allegedly also a candidate for adaptation, but probably more animated. In this case, we have a concrete world in which the series would play, even if not necessarily the story of the games needs to be redeted. With the appearance of known characters is definitely to be expected.
Since Mass Effect should also be planned as a series, it could be a double deal between Netflix and Bioware (respectively EA). From the Mass Effect production we know that there should be interactions, so that could also apply to Dragon Age.
Where do the rumors come from? Both supposed leaks come from the Portal Giant Freakin Robot (and here), which relies on "trusted and proven" sources. However, the information is not to be regarded as a fact, at least until Netflix issues an official statement.
Other Netflix video game adaptations:
- The Witcher: Blood Origin - villain from Witcher 3 confirmed for the Netflix series
- The Witcher Season 2: Netflix teaser shows legendary Witcher fortress for the first time
- Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is now available at Netflix
Netflix and the big gaming flirt
The fact that Netflix wants to implement additional gaming franchises in the series format fits the company's strategy to closely link the streaming service to the Games industry. In addition to various adaptations, Netflix also wants to stream games in the future \ - first as a free additional offer to the existing subscriptions. At the beginning, however, there will be smaller games, possibly as TIE-ins to existing series and films.
What do you think of the supposed Netflix implementations?
